Cinco de Mayo


Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May) is a national holiday in Mexico.  Also known as the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, it was established to honor a military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III and has since become a symbol of Mexican resistance to foreign domination. It is celebrated in Mexico with parades and speeches.  It is also popular in parts of the United States with large Mexican populations and is celebrated with festivals that include music, dancing and food.  To find out more about Cinco de Mayo, here are some books to explore:
