Kids Databases Highlights

 Did you know that with your library card, you have automatic access to so many databases. Now, I know what you might be thinking which is, "Why do I care?" Well, let me tell you!

You can use the library's databases to help you with school projects, research papers and even tutoring. Using the library's databases, you can also listen to music and books, read some magazines and comics, play games, and why not watch a movie or two. I know what you are thinking after reading this: AMAZING!

Here are just some of the databases that the Syosset Public Library offers:

Comic Plus Library Edition- This database offers over 20,000 digital comics and graphic novels for all ages. Comics are updated weekly, and there are no holds, no waits, and no limits on checkouts.

Tumble Books- A fun and interactive library of animated, talking storybooks for beginning readers. After reading a story, you can play puzzles and games.

Kanopy- Stream your favorite kids movies with your library card!

ABCMouse.com- With 3500 plus interactive books, educational games puzzles and other learning activities, ABCmouse.com's award winning online curriculum is an invaluable resource for young learners.

Learning Express- Access tests, tutorials, ebooks etc.

The Force Was With Us

The grade school kids are back to class this week after lots of fun activities here in the Children's Room. Friday's showing of the animated feature Clone Wars brought out even our littlest die hard Star Wars fans, despite such a glorious spring day. I think I saw Chewbacca sitting in the back row!

Our staff has been busy helping patrons with their challenging school projects and research assignments. (The Rube Goldberg experiments are great fun to see). Remember, you can always access our online database collection from home with your library card barcode for information such as biographies, animals, science, and more.

We have some great new books that have been added to our collection this week. Click on the bookshelf on the lower right or come in and see for yourself. You can find our New Books section below the quilts in the Children's Room.

And just a reminder, our library will be having a fabulous Open House event on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 1pm-4pm. There will be entertainment, live music, crafts, a circus performer, refreshments, and more. Call us or stop in for more information. We can't wait to see you!
