The Dog Days of Summer

Hello friends,

Have you ever wondered what the term "dog days of summer" means? Well, today's post will breakdown the meaning of the popular term.

The "dog days of summer" refers to the period between July 3 - August 11 particularly because, this time period is known to be the hottest days of the summer. The "dog days" are so  hot and humid, that even dogs would much rather lay about rather than run around.

In ancient Greece and Ancient Rome astrology, the "dog days" appeared around the same time that Sirius, the dog star, appears to rise alongside the sun. The Greeks and the Romans believed that the heat from the two stars combined is what made these days so hot.
