Mad about science? Help us decorate our Children's Room!

With the first week down of this year's SRP (or Summer Reading Program, if you prefer), we are all delighted to see so many children come to sign up!

It is great to see everyone so excited about reading, and maybe even excited about science?  After all, this year our theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read!" As you might have noticed, if you have visited us this past week, we have decorated our room with all sorts of science related crafts.  All that's missing is yours!

That's right!  While each of the librarians contributed to the festivities -- we all made the robots sitting on the stacks -- we are asking for your help in making our room look better than ever!

How can you help?  We are providing kits to make your very own paper bag "Mad Scientists" to put on our shelves!  Stop by!  Make a Mad Scientist!  We will display your craft all summer long, and in August, you can take it home.  But make sure to stop by soon, because supplies are limited. Once they fizzle out, BOOM!  They'll be gone.

Scroll down to check out some of ones your friends and neighbors have already done.

Can you guess...

How many LEGOS do you think are in this jar?

Stop by the Children's Room to submit a guess.  While you're there, make sure you sign up for our Summer Reading Club.

Check back in August to find out the answer!

New Technology in the Children's Room

When you come to visit the Children's Room, you can use one of our brand new computers, or you can borrow an iPad to use in the Library!  The iPads are preloaded with games for children!  Come with your grownup and their library card and Driver's license to sign out an iPad for an hour!

We also have two nooks loaded with many titles and series to borrow for two weeks!  The series include Harry Potter, Dork Diaries, Heroes of Olympus, Middle School, I Survived and Who Was.  The individual titles are The Candymakers by Wendy Mass, Frindle by Andrew Clements, Heat and Summerball by Mike Lupica , The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate, Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, and Wonder by R. J. Palacio.  An adult over 18 will have to check out the nook, and sign the borrowing agreement.

On your mark! Get set! Go!

June marks the countdown of the school year and many elementary schools celebrate with a Field Day event.

Before you pack their backpacks with water and slather on the sunscreen, get your kids ready by reading the antics of some of their favorite characters as they race to the finish line.

See you at the races,

Miss Rosemarie
